Cord Cutting Ritual

You’ve most likely heard about cord cuttings but wtf does this ritual actually entail? This powerful tool for emotional and spiritual healing is done with the intention of severing energetic ties or connections that are rooted in attachments, past relationships, or emotional bonds that are no longer serving our highest good. This includes friendships, ex’s, and even versions of yourself that you are ready to let go of.

A favorite within the Rootz & Ritual community, we recommend following these steps mindfully so that you can create a meaningful experience that supports your growth and well-being. During this process, you are encouraged to follow your intuition and trust that what you are letting go of will help usher in a new beginning.

Materials

  • Our Rootz & Ritual cord cutting kit which includes:

    • Two Candles

    • A string representative of the “energetic’ cord

    • Protective Salt

    • Supportive Herbs for a clean, gentle cord cutting ritual.

    • Two Bay Leaves for optional written intentions.

Steps

1.Setting Up the Space

  • Cleanse the area where you will perform the ritual, including the candles you’ll be using. You may do this by using sound, incense or resin (whatever your preferred style of cleaning is).

  • It’s important to perform this ritual in a fire safe area so be cautious of your surroundings, including the surface where you’ll be placing your candles.

2. Setting Your Intentions

  • Clearly define what or whom you are cutting energetic ties with by engraving your name on one of your candles, and/or anything you are hoping to call in.

  • On the second candle, carve what you are releasing (a name, place, thing, or pattern).

3. Setting Up the Candles:

  • Place the each of the candles on the fireproof surface. You may melt bottoms of the candles so that the wax can be used as a glue.

  • Position them at about 3-5 inches apart.

  • At the base of your candles, pour salt for protection.

4.Prepping the Cord:

  • Utilize the string that comes with the kit. This will act as your cord. Take each of the ends and tie it around both candles, symbolizing the connection between yourself and what you’re releasing.

    • It is recommended to tie the string closer to the top, as the cord will be cut sooner when burning.

    • Tying the string will be challenging. Candles may fall down and it may cause frustration. ALCHEMIZE THAT ENERGY AND POUR IT INTO YOUR RITUAL.

    • You may cut off any excess string that you do not use.

    • For your Bay Leaves, you may use them to amply your ritual by writing words of intention. You can simply place them onto your tray or using the extra string tie the Bay Leaves around each candle.

5.Dressing the Candles

  • While this step is optional, anointing with herbs provided in our Cord Cutting Kits are aimed to support a gentle and compassionate cord cutting.

    • Use your choice of oil: using olive oil, anointing oil or essential oil of your choosing, pour over both candles.

    • Once dressed, you may pour herbs on top of the candles and string.

      • Herbs included in our kits: Bay Leaves, Blessed Thistle, Calendula, Lemon Balm, Mugwort & Rue

6. Lighting the Candles:

  • As you light each candle, focus on your intention. Visualize the connection between you and the other person or situation clearly in your mind.

7. Let the Candles Work Their Magick:

  • Allow the candles to burn down completely, if possible. As they burn, continue to focus on your intention and the feeling of release.

  • NEVER leave a burning candle unattended! Be sure to monitor them.

8. Disposing the Remains:

  • Once the candles have burned down, collect the remnants of the wax and the cut cord. Dispose of them away from your home, symbolizing the final release of the connection. You can bury them, throw them in running water, or place them in a trash bin far from your living space.
